Bremerton Promise Officially Launched

Promise has been officially launched. The committee is currently working on a feasibility study, long term funding sources, and planning a fundraising event.

Donations can be made to the Bremerton Schools Foundation 134 Marion Ave, Bremerton WA 98312. Please indicate you would like this donation designated for the Bremerton Promise.

If you would like more information or would like to be involved, please contact Julie Wasserburger at wasser3@comcast.net or home phone number 373-6308.

The Bremerton Promise will be a scholarship fund to provide up to four years tuition to a public college or technical school for all Bremerton High School Graduates that qualify.

Qualifications include; Bremerton Resident, Pro-rated tuition based on years in the Bremerton School District, graduate from BHS, a good citizen and crime free, complete the FAFSA, and a cumulative 2.0 GPA.

The committee is currently in the planning stages of fundraising and has invited Ron Kitchens, a chief executive officer of Kalamazoo economic development organization of Southwest Michigan First, to share with our community how a scholarship program will affect the City of Bremerton.  The Kalamazoo Promise launched in 2005, has not only paid for tuition for any graduate that qualifies, but experienced unprecedented economic growth in the surrounding community.  Additional cities such as Denver, El Dorado, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh have started their own “Promise” programs.

We would like to thank the following sponsors for making this event possible:  Olympic College Foundation, Kitsap Credit Union, Bremerton Council PTSA, and the Hampton Inn.

Please check back for more information.

Bremerton Rotary
Reading Program 2009

Bremerton Schools Foundation joined with Bremerton Rotary, Olympic College Foundation, and Bremerton PTSA Council to support the 2009 Rotary Reading Program for the second year in a row.

Volunteers from Bremerton Rotary and Bremerton Schools Foundation read to all Kindergardeners in the Bremerton School District for 8 weeks once a week.  At the end each student was given two books displaying a specially designed logo including all the organizations encouraging students to Read every Day.

The Bremerton Schools Foundation would especially like to thank Bank of America for $1,000 donation, Marilee Hansen and Shawna Bliss for their contributions to the program.
